Techenomics International Leads the Way in Preventative Maintenance

March 12th, 2010

Techenomics Condition MonitoringMining Companies spend hundreds of thousands even millions of dollars on the maintenance of their mining equipment. But what if you could prevent a lot of these maintenance costs, extend the life of your equipment, lower unscheduled downtime and save your company money.

Techenomics International can do just that. Techenomics International is a lubrication and condition monitoring specialist who offer preventative maintenance tools to the mining industry.

Proving successful and very much in demand, Techenomics, who operate throughout Australia, Asia and in Madagascar, have weathered the global financial crisis.

“Over the past few years Techenomics has tripled in size on the back of strong growth in Borneo and consolidation in the Hunter Valley. Techenomics have opened offices in Madagascar, Laos, Bangkok, Shanghai and Batam and new laboratories in Bangkok and Balikpapan” explains Chris Adsett, Techenomics CEO.

Techenomics offer condition monitoring services which include oil analysis, magnetic plug inspections, and lubrication and filtration solutions to fixed and mobile plants, all of which can significantly extend the life of your equipment, lower unscheduled downtime and most importantly decrease costs.

This year Techenomics also launched the first fully integrated condition monitoring software package, Blue Oceans.

“The software was designed to allow maintenance personnel to schedule and record maintenance for their equipment including recording all oil analysis, lubricant and fuel usage and monitoring wear on magnetic plugs and rear dump trays. “ Explains Jason Davis New Product Manager, Techenomics International.

Clients using Blue Oceans will be able to trend, create limits, and customise their data on all condition monitoring analysis results.  Non-services customers are able to create and integrate data obtained from their existing oil analysis provider and other condition monitoring programmes into their own unique modules and formats for equipment trending.

Only this month Techenomics added the static wear tray module to the software program. The tools and functions that are built into the static wear tray module are very unique as the program has been designed to predict failures before they occur. The software functions utilize Microsoft technologies to enable this precision software to predict the future.

“It works by having Techenomics trained field staff monitor and record all areas of the rear dump tray by using specialised tools that display the current thickness of each plate in each location. This is then recorded by the field staff and later uploaded into Blue Oceans,” says Mr Davis.

“Then maintenance planners and superintendents can check the status of the plates and ensure parts and repairs are schedule before they are needed.” Continues Mr Davis.

This Static Tray Wear module is a program that can not only save money on ordering in advance but also save thousands on unnecessary downtime on equipment.

Techenomics International offers a range of other condition monitoring tools that also are linked to the Blue Oceans software.

Techenomics International has extensive knowledge of the Fuel, Lubricants, Air Coolants (FLAC) program and can assist companies in developing a world class contamination control program which has seen some clients reduce lubrication related failures in mining equipment by 80%, greatly improve the availability of plant and equipment, reduce oil spend and the volumes of waste hydrocarbons being removed from site.

Specialising in oil analysis, Techenomics International can analyse lubricant samples from many different sources including mining companies and have a full range of condition monitoring testing available through all of its laboratories.

Results for each sample are reviewed, interpreted and managed by the company’s Blue Oceans software and recommendations are given by trained chemists and technicians with a background in equipment maintenance.

Preventative Maintenance is all about insight knowledge of the equipments compartments and since 2002 Techenomics International have been performing magnetic plug inspections on equipment fleets including haul trucks, rear dumps, dozers and loaders.

The collected data has provided maintenance planners with the vital information directed at identifying iron wear generation. This service provides planners insight information to the component life of wheel hubs, final drives and other planetary gearboxes preventing unnecessary failures and providing the key to cutting costs. Recommendations are then provided in the online reporting via Blue Oceans.

Techenomics International filtration services can assist companies with the design and installation of a range of fuel and oil filtration solutions.

Techenomics International fit Filter Barrels which eliminate inadequate filtration of contaminants in gearboxes. Reduced efficiency of gearbox lubrication and filtration systems lead to higher maintenance costs, due to more frequent part replacements, and more frequent oil changes. Once fitted, Filter Barrels, which never need to be changed, will eliminate these problems and increase the working life of both oil and components.

Also this year Techenomics International has made available RULER® testing and Foaming testing for Hydraulic oils, to help companies prevent Hydraulic system failures or component failures in mining machinery due to antioxidant depletion or foaming Hydraulic oils.

RULER® testing is designed to inform the owner of any antioxidant depletion in oils being used in service before it becomes a problem.

Like with RULER® testing, Foaming testing on Hydraulic Oils is also imperative to the health of equipment and maintaining equipment performance.

Techenomics International also provides onsite sample extraction services to a variety of mine sites in the Hunter Valley, Australia and South East Asia. Techenomics highly trained lubrication field staff, collect oil, grease and coolant samples from numerous equipment compartments prior to the equipment service intervals, this allows maintenance planners time to order any necessary parts and schedule maintenance repairs, this will reduce unnecessary down time on equipment.

As well as offering condition monitoring services, Techenomics International also manufactures and supplies OnSpec Lubricants. Available for the past ten years the range features mine greases and rope oils, advantage grease, open gear lubes, hydraulic oils, gear oils, coolants, break out grease, and wire rope lubes.

The OnSpec lubricant range has gotten so big that today it has its own lubricant service trucks that have the capabilities of pumping into bulk tanks and delivering directly onto equipment in the pits.

Further highlighting the range’s enormous success, OnSpec Lubricants also has its own software that can record and trend usage rates on all equipment, graph total site usages and trend lubricant problems with injectors and faulty pumps.

With the success of its condition monitoring services and OnSpec Lubricant range Techenomics International is looking only to grow in the near future. “We have greatly expanded our scope and have plans to double the size of the company this year” says Chris Adsett, Techenomics CEO.
